TWO ACADEMIC PROFESSIONAL POSITIONS

REFERENCE
The University of Houston-Downtown W. I. Dykes Library is accepting
applications for the position of  Reference Librarian.

The successful candidate will provide reference services, bibliographic
instruction, collection development, and interlibrary loans in a
computer network environment.  Other duties include providing informal
hands-on instruction in the use of library resources including the
online catalog and database network upon patron demand; sharing evening
and weekend hours with the other library staff as assigned; and
supervising interlibrary loan services.

REQUIREMENTS:   MLS from an ALA accredited library school with at least
two years of academic library reference experience preferred.  Ability
to communicate effectively in both written and oral form.  Ability to
work independently and as a member of a public services team.
Experience with automated library system desired.

SALARY: $29,000 minimum

ACQUISITIONS

The University of Houston-Downtown W. I. Dykes Library is accepting
applications for the position of Acquisitions Librarian.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing acquisition
of all library materials in Technical Services.  Supervision of
paraprofessionals, facilitating requests from selectors and faculty,
subject specific collection development responsibility, overseeing
electronic ordering/receiving/payment operations as well as maintaining
vendor accounts and administering budget funds.  Efficient communication
skills, familiarity with INNOVATIVE, OCLC, and other electronic systems,
are  strongly preferred.

REQUIREMENTS:   MLS from an ALA accredited library school with at least
two years of academic library acquisitions experience.  Training in
automated applications in libraries. Ability to communicate effectively
in both oral and written form.  Ability to work as a member of a
Technical Services team, sharing evening and weekend hours with the
other library staff as assigned.
