Position No. 212-0180/JD/HPI Associate Librarian I (Head of Cataloging) Full-time Librarian (non-tenure track) Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include providing leadership in the organization of and access to the collections of the Health Sciences and Human Services Library. Plans, directs, and administers the work of 3 FTE responsible for the cataloging, classification, and processing of Library materials. Develops and implements goals, policies, and procedures for bibliographic control. Provides original and edit cataloging for materials in multiple formats. Participates in other Library projects as necessary; coordinates cooperative library projects relating to bibliographic control within the University community. Maintains current knowledge of the development of national and international cataloging standards, advances in technology, and trends in academic librarianship. Maintains knowledge of and skill in applying cataloging rules and practices, and in database design and development. Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited library school and three to five years professional library experience in a cataloging department, preferably in an academic or research institution. Three years of supervisory or project management experience in a technical services setting is preferred. Must have experience with OCLC or other bibliographic utility; experience with an integrated library system, preferably DRA; thorough knowledge of MARC21 bibliographic, authority, and holdings formats; Library of Congress (LC) and/or National Library of Medicine (NLM) policies and procedures; LC classification schedules; the use, interpretation, and application of LC Subject Headings (LCSH) and/or NLM Subject Headings (MeSH), and the _Anglo American Cataloguing Rules_ (2nd ed.,1998 rev.). Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, and proven analytical and organizational skills.
