It depends on the size of the battery firing at you.

If we use a cannon source for an example if we use the Imperial Planet-class Heavy Cruiser from the Rebellion Sourcebook (or rather the corrected version).

Each battery round of missiles is 1280, i.e. each battery fires 1280 a go, and 19 of the Missile Batteries can bear on a single target in any combat round. Meaning if they all fired at a single target in one combat round that’s 24,320 missiles all heading to one target. It can sustain 50 battery rounds in addition to the first salvo (plus the initial load of the 6 batteries that can’t bear) before it runs out of ammo, so if it loses everything it has in 3 combat rounds (which it's possible to do) there are 96,000 missiles heading for the target.

Who needs decoys? ...

10 decoys to each missile would only seem to be worth the effort if the decoys were significantly (10x in fact) cheaper than the missile, and then you have to have the launching capability to launch them, which would only make sense if they were 10 time smaller than the missiles as well.

I'm not really worried about designing or rules to carry them, I'm interested in how they would apply to combat situations. It's one thing for a barrage of 30 missiles to be incoming, but quite another if that same barrage had 300+ targets.
