Which ignores the fact that under CT rules, jump drives also need power
from the reactor for (according to High Guard) at least one space combat
turn, possibly two (depending on your power plant's output).

And yet nobody else uses such jump drives, even though if they can be
solar charged, a normal reactor could do so in much less time, and it
would save a huge amount of volume (and make combat starships are
powerful and non-starships).

There's a lot of contradictory 'canon', it can't all be reconciled, so I
recommend that people simply work out what works best for them, and go
with that. For MTU I chose 'requires power from an outside source' and
'fuel is for a jump bubble, formed shortly before jumping'.
