From the discussions of the various playtests, the reason for the Tech Levels
is GT *had* to use the GURPS TLs. There were several of these edicts handed down
from on-high, all of the form "GURPS has a rule for this, use it". There were
several things, but TL is the most noticeable. Others would be the government
types, law levels, the Starport Types, overall starship design, and others that
escape my memory at the moment.

MgT uses the CT TL scale, with a few additions. T5 uses the CT TL scale, but
expands it out to TL33. There are some refinements and minor things moved around
with both systems. But it would be largely recognizable to the CT or MT player.
