It's pretty self explanatory.  Whether we like it or not, Traveller
never had the draw that D&D had, and today has even less.  To close a
game specific convention to walk-ins doesn't make any sense if you want
to draw new people.  I know the resort where this is taking place and it
tends to have a lot of traffic over the weekends, is about 90 minutes
from Philadelphia, perhaps the same or a little more from Baltimore and
about two hours or so from Washington DC.  Lots of people decide to go
to a con on the spur of the moment, I tended to do that back when
Origins was held in Baltimore.

If we want the game to grow we need to move away from hosting things for
the "in-crowd" who are tied into the network and open it for others who
might be curious or remember playing it in years past who just happened
to find out.

Again, IMO.  YMMV and it appears it does.
