Well, those ships probably aren't carrying much else. Also, there's
plenty of oxygen too, so you could choose to be surrounded in a cloud of
CO2 instead. :)

I expect you'd form the carbon into pellets and shove it away along a
set vector at low velocity, and mark that vector as "don't fly your ship
here". In a few million years somebeing will find them and wonder what
the hell a few million tons of elemental carbon is doing slowly drifting
through interstellar space like that.
