Hazardous Materials Incident Response: Technician
April 29-May 3;  8:00 am - 5:00 pm

This 80 hour course is designed to meet the competencies for Hazardous Materials Technician and Hazmat On-Scene Incident Commander as outlined in OSHA 1910.120, Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response and the educational competencies referenced in 2013 NFPA 472, Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials.  Lecture, class participation and application exercises will be used to examine the following topics:  chemistry and toxicology, hazards and risks, sources of assistance, personal protective equipment, health and safety, laws and regulations, incident command, monitoring techniques and equipment, evidence collection and implementation of response objectives.  Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be eligible to take the state certification exam with the Missouri Division of Fire Safety.
Prerequisites:  MO DFS Hazmat Awareness and Operations Certifications.  PPE Required: SCBA and spare cylinder, eye protection, leather work gloves and safety toe shoes.
Optional:  Personal level A training suit.

Please note:  This course has several prerequisites that need to be met prior to approval.  You must provide your Missouri Division of Fire Safety awareness and operations course completion certificates as well as the required OSHA forms signed by the appropriate personnel.  This class has a 15 student minimum and 24 student maximum so please register early.
