CALL FOR TRAINERS

The Serials Cataloging Cooperative Training Program (SCCTP) is
developing a one day course on the creation of holdings records for
serials, based on the MARC 21 Holdings Format and ANSI/NISO
Z39.71-1999. A train-the-trainer session will be held in Washington,
DC at the Library of Congress on Thursday and Friday, January 11-12,
2001 (just prior to ALA midwinter). The train-the-trainer session
will be held from 9:00-5:00 on Thursday, and 9:00-1:00 on Friday and
will include a modeling of the course itself as well as training tips
and a practicum.

Requirements: Trainers should have experience using the MARC holdings
format, a good familiarity with serials, and some training experience.
Trainers will be expected to be available to give a minimum of two
sessions per year beginning in February 2001. The holdings course is
designed to be given by a single trainer using PowerPoint, a trainee
manual, and hands-on exercises.

Costs: There is no cost for the train-the-trainer session. Your
institution will be responsible for travel and per diem costs while
you are attending the training. Training materials will be provided
free of charge.

As an SCCTP trainer, costs associated with giving the course are paid
for by the sponsoring agency and an honorarium may be included. There
is no further cost to your institution other than the commitment of
time. As SCCTP courses are given regionally, trainers usually are
chosen from those closest to the training site to minimize travel.
The amount of travel is up to the trainer, however.

Those interested should fill out the following application form and
send to Jean Hirons at: If you wish to discuss the course, please
feel free to call at: 202-707-5947. For more information on SCCTP,
see

Deadline for applications: October 20, 2000.
