Date: Mon, 19 Feb 2001 08:38:29 -0800 From: Yvonne Wei Zhang <ywzhang@CSUPOMONA.EDU> Subject: Library Assistant I Job Posting for Cal Poly Pomona #020-AC-01 LIBRARY ASSISTANT I University Library, Bibliographic Access Services (BAS) Full-time, probationary Resume Required $2,371 - $3,093 per month Closing Date: 2/26/01 BAS acquires, organizes, preserves and provides effective bibliographic access according to internationally accepted standards and practices to collections of materials and recorded scholarly information in a multiplicity of physical formats (including electronic format). BAS Units are responsible for ordering, receiving, cataloging, transferring, withdrawing and maintaining up-to-date holding records in the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) and in OCLC for all materials in all physical formats acquired by the University Library. The incumbent, under the direction of the Monographs Coordinator, will perform monographic ordering functions, including ordering, receiving, invoice approval and posting; perform cataloging ranging from DCL to contributed copy in all formats including Internet resources; input University Master's Thesis Projects directly into INNOPAC. Under the direction of the Serials Coordinator, the incumbent will process new periodical check-ins; process added volumes to the OPAC, including invoice approval; process claims for periodical titles; perform database maintenance for serial and periodical titles in assigned HEGIS area; set-up new standing orders; other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of the sublisted experience and education that provides the required knowledge and abilities may qualify: EXPERIENCE EDUCATION 3 years library clerical assistant experience No minimum requirement OR 2 years library clerical assistant experience AND 2 years/60 semester units OR 1 year library clerical assistant experience AND 4 years/120 semester units Basic knowledge and understanding of monograph cataloging and ordering; working knowledge of Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR2); one year of hand-on monographs cataloging experience; working knowledge of OCLC; good organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities; accuracy, flexibility, and effective communication skills are required; ability to complete work assignments within deadlines and to work well in a team environment. Desirable: Experience with monograph ordering, invoice approval and posting; experience with periodical/serial check-ins and claims; experience with Innovative Interface, Inc. integrated library automation systems and OCLC CatME software; experience in an Academic Library.
