Technical Services Librarian The University of Montevallo seeks an innovative and energized librarian with broad interests and special expertise in library technical services. UM is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC), a national alliance of leading liberal arts colleges, offering baccalaureate and master's degree programs with an emphasis on high quality education and innovative teaching. Adjacent to Birmingham, in one of the nation's fastest growing counties, Montevallo provides attractive living in a moderate climate with ready access to metropolitan and recreational resources. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of the technical services unit, which includes cataloging, acquisitions, and serials, and supervision of support and student staff in these areas. The Technical Services Librarian monitors and analyzes vendor performance with outsourced services and is responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of bibliographic, holdings, authority, and hyperlink information in the library's database. The Technical Services Librarian works collaboratively with the Director and the other members of the library faculty to develop innovative procedures and tools for the delivery of library services and is expected to participate in the planning, goal-setting, and decision making of the library. This person will also assist with the delivery of reference services and library programs and will perform other professional responsibilities as needed. We require an ALA-accredited MLS and demonstrated knowledge of current cataloging standards and practices relating to print, non-print, music, and archival materials. Desirable qualifications include technical services experience in an academic library, experience supervising support and/or student staff, experience cataloging print and non-print materials, and experience working with an integrated library system, preferably Horizon. Additional characteristics sought include strong communication and organizational skills, the aptitude for complex, analytical work, flexibility, and the ability to ability to exercise initiative in a changing environment. This is a tenure track, 12-month appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, and it offers substantial opportunity for professional growth and development. Salary range is mid-thirties.
