HEAD OF MONOGRAPHS UNIT/COORDINATOR OF APPROVAL PLANS

Supervises Monographs Unit of the Acquisitions Department (5 FTE plus
student assistants).  Trains support staff and provides on-going problem
resolution.  Sets work priorities for the unit.  Chooses and monitors
performance of book vendors. Works with Resource Services Librarians and
librarians at other Hopkins libraries to select and provide access to
electronic monographs.  Works with Head of Serials Unit to coordinate
licensing of electronic monographs.  Monitors trends and developments in
electronic publishing. Acts as liaison with Cataloging Department to
ensure adequate workflow and problem resolution.  Oversees gift
processing.  Responsible for Exchange Program with other libraries.
Primary responsibility for successful operation of approval plans.  Acts
as liaison with library fund managers to set up and monitor approval
plans.  Works directly with vendors to profile and adjust approval plans.
Oversees PromptCat performance.  Monitors and analyzes approval returns.
Participates as part of departmental managerial team.

Required qualifications:
Masters in Library Science from ALA accredited program or equivalent
education/work experience.  At least two years acquisitions experience in
a library.  Knowledge of approval plan theory and operation, book industry
and publishing practices and trends, including electronic publishing.
Working knowledge of at least two western European languages in addition
to English.  Knowledge of AACR2 and MARC.  Proficiency with word
processing, spreadsheet, and relational database programs such as MSWord,
Excel, Access, etc.  Proficiency with an integrated library management
system.  Prior supervisory experience.  Strong interpersonal and
communication skills.  Ability to work well with colleagues, staff, and
external clients.

Preferred qualifications:
Experience working in an ARL library.  Experience with electronic
monographs.  Knowledge of the Horizon integrated library system.
