Re: Question about Survey of Current Business Glen Mahoney 01 Feb 2002 02:02 UTC

I can not answer the original question posed. However, Survey of
Current Business (ISSN 0039-6222) continues to be published in paper
format, even if depository libraries cannot receive this way. I have in
my hands the January 2002 issue (v.82,no.1), which was received on
01/30/02. I find nothing in this issue that indicates its imminent
demise in this format. It is available by subscription at a cost of
$50.00 per year.

This is an academic question for future issues, at least for depository
libraries, since it is not longer available to depositories in paper,
according to the Government Printing Office. It is however available on
the Web at http://www.bea.doc.gov/bea/pubs.htm on an ongoing basis. It was
a government depository item. I'm not sure of the exact relationship to
Business Statistics; I think Business Statistics was entitled a biennial
supplement. In any case it wouldn't be as current, for month to month
statistics. Business Statistics used to be a depository government
publication, but is now commercial and not inexpensive, from Bernan Press.
It is useful, of course.

Survey of Current Business is now an electronic (EL) only product. It is
available online from 1998-current at the Bureau of Economic Analysis
(BEA). Most, if not all, of the information in Business Stats of US are
from BEA and available on their web-site.

We're thinking of weeding Survey of Current Business. Some professors want
to keep it, others don't. My question is: is this monthly publication
replaced by the annual publication, Business Statistics of the United
States? In the front of Bus.Stats it says it is a supplement to SCB, but
does it replace it?

Thanks - Allison
