Business of Acquisitions
Working Together to Get It Done: Acquisitions
Librarians As Collaborators
        An ALCTS Acquisitions Section Preconference

        Friday, June 20, 2003

Managing library acquisitions while budgets are shrinking
and formats are exploding requires new skills and services
of acquisitions departments. In the 21st century,
acquisitions librarians must be collaborators, not just
accommodators. This preconference will explore our new
roles and responsibilities in the Digital Age.

This one-day preconference will focus on the need for
developing collaborative relationships with book, serial
and ILS vendors, consortia, public services, collection
development and data providers. The program targets
experienced acquisitions librarians, but includes content
that will be useful to new acquisitions librarians and
collection development practitioners as well.

The program:

·
Keynote speakers will set the larger scene for
acquisitions collaboration from the vendor and library
perspective.

·
Attendees will have a choice of breakouts
presentations by experts in the field on topics like agile
budgeting for trying times and collaborating with vendors.

·
The program includes time for informal networking
with colleagues, as well as facilitated discussion groups
focused on current issues such as the role of the credit
card in library acquisitions and managing standing orders
and approval plans.

To register, include preconference registration in your
