Re: MeSH headings and Serials Solutions records Steven C Shadle 01 Mar 2005 19:41 UTC

Wayne -- Some possible suggestions (just brain storming here):

* Protect your 6XX X2 fields from overlay (or put MeSH in a local field 6XX that can be protect from overlay and included in your MeSH index)
* Ask SerSol to use print record as the basis for what they send you rather than online version record as print records are more likely to have MeSH
* Send enhancement requests to OCLC to add MeSH if you don't have authorization to edit

Just some thoughts. --Steve

It has generally been excellent, but one thing we hadn't considered was that there are many CONSER records (the go-to source of records for Serials Solutions and other similar vendors) which lack MeSH headings, and so the result is either that we accept the fact that a SerSols record without MeSH headings will overwrite our current record which has them, or that we make a local change to the SerSols record once we have it -- but that means that future loads from SerSols for that record will not automatically overwrite it because the local changes are protected.
