Call for volunteers: ALCTS Creative Ideas DG at ALA 2005 Kalyani Parthasarathy 31 May 2005 14:58 UTC

The ALCTS Creative Ideas in Technical Services Discussion Group will
hold its meeting at ALA Annual in Chicago.
Date and time: Sunday, June 26, 2005, 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Place: PALM (Palmer House Hilton) Room PDR 18

Participants can choose from the seven table topics listed below. The
co-chairs will provide a sheet of sub-topics to serve as a discussion
guide for each topic.

The co-chairs for this year are: Jack Hall, University of Houston, and
Kalyani Parthasarathy, University of New Orleans.

VOLUNTEER FACILITATORS AND RECORDERS SOUGHT: We are seeking volunteers
to facilitate and record the discussions at the individual topic
tables. If you would like to facilitate or record, please send your
information to Kalyani Parthasarathy (kparthas@uno.edu). Indicate all
the table topics you would be willing to work on (see list below) and
your preference to facilitate or record. The co-chairs will appreciate
flexibility on your part as we assign topics and roles.

NEXT VICE CHAIR - CHAIR ELECT: Jack and I have enjoyed chairing this
group over the last year and Jack rotates off after 2005 annual. We
need a volunteer who will serve as Vice Chair for the next year and
then take over as Chair at annual 2006. If you are interested, please
send a message to Kalyani Parthasarathy (kparthas@uno.edu) with a
brief note about your experience with chairing committees or groups.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF VOLUNTEERS: FACILITATORS guide the discussions on
the topics at their tables, making sure that everybody is encouraged
to
participate, and seeing to it that the discussion ends in time for
brief summary reports to be made to the group at large. RECORDERS take
notes during the discussion and send a written report to the
discussion group co-chairs soon after the conference is over. Those
reports will form the basis of the report the co-chairs make to ALCTS,
and the deadline is always very soon after the conference.

At individual tables, the facilitator and the recorder can come to an
agreement over which of them will stand up for a couple of minutes at
the end of the meeting and give a brief report on their table's
discussion to all the attendees.

Individual table topics for discussions, which will last about 30
minutes:

1. Ceasing Check-in of Serials
2. Giving Patrons Access to Web Sites
3. Serials Review and Cancellation Projects
4. Putting Materials in Remote Storage or Weeding Materials
5. Gathering Collection and Usage Statistics
6. Collections Budget: Allocating and Reallocating Money to Subjects
and other Fund Accounts
7. Evaluating Technical Services Librarians: Regular Evaluations and
Evaluations for Promotion and Tenure

Please send your volunteer interests to Kalyani Parthasarathy
(kparthas@uno.edu)

Thanks in-advance!
