Serials/Continuing Resources Catalog Librarian:

The Thomas Cooper Library, University of South Carolina, Columbia, seeks a
librarian who will be responsible for original and complex copy cataloging
of serials/continuing resources in a variety of subject areas and formats
according to established standards and departmental policies.  Works with
other department staff to plan, develop and implement ongoing activities,
policies and special projects; including participation in database
maintenance.  Supervises one library specialist.  Will work closely with
the staff of Serials Acquisitions and the Electronic Resources Librarian.

Required Qualifications:  MLS or MLIS from accredited ALA program,
professional experience working with serials or electronic resources
cataloging, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge of
cataloging standards, including CONSER, AACR2, LCSH, LC classification, LC
rule interpretations and MARC21.  Evidence of flexibility and of
analytical skills to resolve complex problems.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience using the Innovative Interfaces, Inc.
automation system, knowledge of and working experience with national
serials cataloging standards, evidence of experience in teaching and
training technical services staff, experience in an academic library,
demonstrated supervisory skills, and bibliographic knowledge of at least
one foreign language.

Appointment: Full time (37.5 hours) 12-month appointment at the
tenure-track rank of Librarian.  Position reports to the Coordinator of
Processing Services.  University of South Carolina librarians are required
to fulfill faculty responsibilities, including professional service.

undergraduate students and 8,000 graduate students on the Columbia campus.
The Thomas Cooper Library owns in excess of 2.5 million volumes,
subscribes to 9,000 journals in print and provides access to a wide
variety of reference resources and journal collections via the Internet.
The Library is a member of SOLINET, OCLC, the Association of Research
Libraries and the Center for Research Libraries.
