Re: Handling PDF's sent in lieu of online access ? Pennington, Buddy D. 28 Jul 2008 18:54 UTC

We have a business librarian who occasionally purchases PDFs. In those
cases we mount the PDF on our website and then proxy the URL to limit
access to authorized users. In these cases, the PDFs are monographs so
we catalog them and provide a link in the bib record.

In your case, you could do something similar but then add the title in
EBSCO's A-to-Z list. I don't use that product so I don't know the
details, but I do use Serials Solutions and it provides the ability to
customize coverage information, URL and even add a note for users.

If EBSCO doesn't allow for this, you could still catalog it to provide
access.

Subject: [SERIALST] Handling PDF's sent in lieu of online access ?

Hello,

We recently have had an interruption in our online access to JACA.

The publisher emailed us, to let us know that the service was
temporarily suspended.

Along with their email, they sent us a PDF of the most recent issue of
JACA.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should/could make the PDF
available online, for our patrons?

Some particulars of our situation:
--We only have access to this journal online - we do not currently
subscribe to the print version. (As I understand it, this journal only
publishes online, as of 2005).
--We currently use EBSCO's A-to-Z, to list out our journal title access
to patrons.

I'm pretty new to the world of serials, so please let me know if more
information would be helpful!

Thanks so much for any help you all can give me with this!

Take care,
Cyndi
