In reply to Norman S. Medeiros:

At San Francisco State University, we have also cancelled most of our
"popular titles" which are not directly related to the curriculum (e.g. Le
Monde, Christian Science Monitor, etc.).  When we can't afford to
subscribe to the basic journals necessary for supporting the classes
taught, we have no justification for "popular" titles which are available
through the public library.
