Assistant Librarian
Interlibrary Loan/Serials

Primary Duties
The Assistant Librarian, ILL, is responsible to Head the Information Services
Division or Director of Library Services for overseeing the borrowing and
lending of materials between institutions. The Assistant Librarian will also be
responsible for the supervision of both the technical and public services of
the Serials Section.  Provides reference assistance as needed, including nights
and weekends, taking charge of the Library on a rotational schedule with the
professional librarians.

Duties & Responsibilities
Supervision, training and scheduling of library associates, technicians,
clerical workers and student assistants in both the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) and
Serials Sections in the Library; Fully responsible for the continual operation
of all aspects of the ILL Section. Keep abreast of current and future trends by
reading professional literature and participating in workshops tailored to
professional development.  Provide leadership in establishing goals,
objectives, polices, priorities and performance standards related to both
Interlibrary Loan and Serials.  Explore, evaluate, plan and implement new
services and technologies in both sections; Maintain and update manuals of
Policy and Procedure for Interlibrary Loan and Serials operations.  Duties also
include overseeing the daily operations of the Serials Section. Work
cooperatively with Information Processing Division and Cataloging Sections for
effective ordering and bibliographic control of serials; oversee all
subscription invoices processed and forwarded to the appropriate individuals;
Provide reference assistance. Performs any other Library related activity as
instructed by the Director of Library Services.

Education & Experience
MLS from an ALA accredited library school, with two years professional
Interlibrary Loan, Serials and Public Service experience desirable, must have
working knowledge of both interlibrary loan and serials procedures.  Must have
supervisory and management experience with a strong public service commitment.
Required Skills include a basic understanding of computer operations and
related skills, including Internet access, and skill in the use of a micro
computer, with attention to detail, accuracy and speed.  Strong organizational
skills required. Ability and willingness to adapt to changing unit needs;
ability to work independently; ability to work well with others, must have good
written and verbal communications skills.

Salary Range
$31,000 to $34,000 per annum.
