If designed and built by Vilani it'll be very reliable and if properly
maintained last just about forever.

Built by Terrans it'll be very reliable for X years, and then require a
very predictable parts expenditure for Y more years, and then at year Z
it'll die and you'll need to buy another. Of course said Terran
manufacturers will be all over Vilani IP law, so all those parts will
have to be purchased from the original manufacturer or their licensed
distributor.
