Adventure Ideas From An Unlikely Source Kurt Feltenberger 04 Mar 2022 21:22 UTC

David Seal of the YouTube channel "Yachts For Sale" just dropped a video
titled, "What effect is the war in Ukraine having on the yachting
industry?" with regards to Russian owned yachts.  The first half to two
thirds of the video is chock full of adventure ideas where he discusses
the following:

1.  The crew:  do they stay, do they go, do they get paid, etc.
Adventure idea:  Due to sanctions, the crew of a noble's yacht hasn't
been paid for more than three months and are threatening to quit,
leaving the yacht unprotected.  The noble's factor approaches the PCs
asking them to carry a large quantity of cash/precious metals/local
currency as payment for the crews' back wages and next six months.  Is
this legit?  Can the PCs successfully smuggle the cash onto the planet?
Can they get it to the crew?

2.  Yachts in production/being serviced.  If the asset is seized due to
a sanction on the owner, then all work would stop and the investment is
frozen.
Adventure Idea:  The yacht in question is finishing its yearly refit and
overhaul when the sanctions come down.  The crew had been given a
month's vacation and are known to the shipyard.  The owner's factor
hires the PCs to "reacquire" the yacht as only cosmetic work needs to be
done.  This will entail gaining access to the shipyard, bringing the
yacht to operational status, lifting off, and making a run for the gas
giant to fully refuel for a jump out system. Twist:  Is it really the
patron's yacht?

3.  With the sanctions that are in place, at least 10% of the yachts are
now restricted to port two months before the "busy season" starts.  The
captain and purser come up with a scheme to turn the Type-A into an
ersatz yacht (most of them just cruise the spectacular gas giants, land
on the water world one orbit out from the main world, or do three week
"shopping" cruises to a world one jump away that's three TL higher.

Lots of ideas to be mined from the video.
