Maybe the "600 people" count doesn't include the 10^18 near-sentient
self-replicating AIs they control, that actually did all the work?  If
they could sustain a doubling time of about 5 years, it could be
semi-plausible.

This is all extremely unlikely of course, but less unlikely than doing
it all with dumb machinery.
