Hell, I remember (at least) two creations by the infamous "Ditzie" - a
very small meson *turret*, designed to function in the anti-hijack role
(gets its targets from the internal sensors and can shoot anyone
anywhere in the ship, right through anything in the way), and a meson
*rifle* (predicated on the sensible assumption that such a thing
requires no big heavy beam pointer, as the operator does that by aiming
the muzzle - and about there is where sensibility and the rest of the
design part company).
