And the easy way of dumping power from those special 'black globes'
capacitors is to power ship's systems (all the rules agree you can do
this). One of those systems in some rule sets is the jump drive.
Therefore we can power the jump drive with energy gathered from the
black globe, so long as we 'launder' it through other capacitors first...

Or we can just ignore what Marc Miller said back then because it ignores
consistent rules from the eight years previous.

Interestingly, black globes worked very differently in HG 1979, with no
mention of absorption of energy, using them to hide, etc. - they just
forced another 'penetration' roll against them, and had a serious
penalty to the using ship's chances of landing hits as well.
