 doubt if Angela Merkel could have snuffed a candle if it was
 a profitable enterprise. The plants went quietly into the
 dark night because most of the operators were happy to get
 rid of them.

Well, TML posters, along w/ everyone else, are just as likely to "say a lot of things".
It's the nature of the beast.

Political honchos have and will continue to 'snuff candles' for reasons that make no sense at all except to them.

I don't think the operators really had any say in it, other than requesting a 'payoff' of some sorts to pretend to acquiesce.
