Or maybe it's like the planet Lincoln in the Castaway books by Ryk
Spoor & Eric Flint (they're an offshoot of their "Boundary" series)

Castaway Planet
Castaway Oddysey
Castaway Peril (not yet released, but soon)

Lincoln, as our intrepid castaways learn, is a very strange planet.
The ocean runs around 60 km deep. Maybe more.

The islands and small continents they see (and they land on one)
aren't land. They are something like coral that floats. And drifts
around the oceans.

It gets considerably stranger from there... The books are definitely
worth reading.

Anyway, it'd be a fun place to dump a bunch of PCs. Even though the
tech (especially the star drive) is very different, it's easy enough
to translate it as a misjump.

ps. Lincoln's hydro is A :-)
