+1 on that. And I think that raw text (or rich text via a light weight protocol like HTML for those that miss bold and italics) will stay as a defacto standard for a long long time.

ObTrav: what's the standard message format in YTU?

In MTU it's encrypted text for long range (xboat) and video/audio for short range (radio)

Because just about every TL can build a monochrome monitor and text file reader. :)
