Jack Williamson's Humanoids (btw he published a sequel in the latter 1/2 of the '70's) took their 'serve mankind' prime directive so seriously that they set up what was a real 'nanny state' where humans catered to as some pampered very young children are now. But definitely NOT allowed any say at all in the process while the Cylons went in the other direction.
